Brookside Elementary School
Brookside Elementary is a PreK-5th grade school serving the Alger Heights and Garfield Park neighborhoods. Located on Madison Avenue SE, it is led by Principal Denishea Killingham and is home to over 270 students and 26 full-time staff. Brookside is a cultural center with a high population of English language learner students and certified ELL teachers. Under Mrs. Killingham’s leadership, Brookside has seen a dramatic increase in student achievement on standardized tests over the past two years.
The Branch has partnered with Brookside in the past by collecting donated school supplies, providing a meal for the staff during conferences and putting on a StoryTime at Brookside event last May.
Looking into the future The Branch will continue partnering with Brookside in several ways. As an elementary school they are always in need of school supplies, sanitation supplies (tissues, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes), spare uniforms, and extra winter clothing. Male chaperones are often needed during school field trips (any volunteers at the school will need to have obtained a GRPS volunteer badge which requires a background check). An Art and Movie night will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, bringing together Brookside families, Branch families and the community at large.
Rallying around Brookside with our support means that not only the school will be strengthened, but the neighborhood as well. To learn more about Brookside, head to their website here.
